Hey! Here’s the second part:
Sweet Treats:
- Shave Ice: Super good in Hawaii. I recommend trying out Island Vintage Shave Ice (frozen yogurt inside was DELICIOUS, we got it twice. I recommend the coconut + mango with mochi and popping boba), Ululani’s Shave Ice, Lahaina Shave Ice, Matsumoto Shave Ice (I liked it, but it tasted a bit more syrup-like than the others, but still check it out if you’re on the north shore!), and Matcha Cafe Maiko (we got the shave ice with the match + vanilla soft serve on top)
- UBAE: a dairy-free soft serve of ube (purple yam, but I promise it is sweet) and the option to swirl in pandan, which is a Filipino vanilla. Try it with the toppings! We got it with granola, sprinkles, strawberries, and blueberries.
- Mosa: Taiwanese-style ice cream wrapped in mochi- it was an experience
- Mango Mango or Down to Earth for the viral mango sticky rice smoothie
- Leonard’s Bakery: the malasadas were really interesting! They’re like donut holes filled with a flavor of your choice. We got one of the custard-filled malasada, and another of the pineapple filling
Cuisines/Meals:
- Lulu’s Waikiki: So many gluten-free options! I got the gluten-free ube mochi pancakes, and the plain chocolate chip mochi pancakes. Their fish tacos were also really delicious, especially for those who don’t like spicy food.
- Island Vintage Coffee: their Hawaiian latte was amazing, and they have a ton of gluten-free options available. We got the Mango + Peanut Butter sandwich, chicken + pesto sandwich, and mushroom veggie sandwich. The lines are crazy long, despite the storm and weather, so do go early if you’re headed for breakfast!
- Totoya: the Negitoro bowl!!
- MonkeyPod Kitchen
- Noi Thai Cuisine for Thai food
- Okdongsik for Korean food
- Mian & Bao for Chinese/Thai cuisine
- Kaimuki Shokudo for Japanese cuisine
Seafood:
- Paia Fish Market: SO GOOD. We went there 3 times during our trip and got the fried calamari, red snapper, ono, salmon, and rice + home potatoes. I’m not exactly a seafood person, but this place definitely changed my mind after the third-time we went there, so check it out!
- Foodland: tried a poke bowl for the first time! As I mentioned before, I don’t love seafood, but I did want to try this before heading back home, and surprisingly, it was pretty good! I got the spicy ahi with rice, and it wasn’t too spicy! I know this is a very popular location for a lot of tourists, so do try it! Also, I got the ube butter mochi here, and OMG, it was so, so good. My mom and I finished all of it within an hour, although we both decided to take it back home- it was just so so good.
- Duke’s
- Tiki’s grill
- Hulla grill Waikiki
- Barefoot Beach cafe
- Waikiki Garlic Shack
- Rumfire: gluten-free Italian clam pasta!
Hiking Spots:
- Manoa Falls: a short hike, but the falls are so beautiful, especially when the storm hit since they were a bit more than a stream.
- Koko Crater Railway Trailhead
- Diamond Head: it’s a lot like a stairmaster that goes on for about 30-40 minutes, but the views are worth it!
I hope these are helpful!! Let me know if y’all have any questions about anything specific in this list, or locations/food to try!
